Anti-Heros, Heros, and Sidekicks - Maleficent the Mistress of Evil
Halloween 2021 was a true treat. We reinvented our first versions of Maleficent and brought the story back with a vengeance. Annika pulled off a battered but saved Maleficent with utter grace. Jay smoldered and sauntered on the scene as Maleficent’s savior, Conall, the Dark Fey. Xander stayed true to his desire to be a non-human for Halloween and portrayed Diaval in his crow form. And I “ruined Maleficent’s morning” as Queen Ingrith. The Fey horns were upgraded versions of the ones we made years ago. We handmade Maleficent’s new wings. Found a great use for those Hawaiian greeting beads held on to since 2013. I dressed up and fancified my engagement lengha with Ingrith-style accessories. And Xander’s costume was 100% handmade! Makeup and face-paint always adds the extra! And this year, with the kids getting older, I wondered if this would be our last all-out family theme year! If it is….it was a great way to end.
Maleficent - The Mistress of Evil
“Once upon a time, or perhaps twice upon a time, where you may remember the story, there was a power Fey, named Maleficent. For some reason, the Mistress of Evil, and Protector of Moors, was still hated after all this time. True she had cursed the Princess, but that was before she found light in the heart of a human child, and raised the girl as her own. After all, it was Maleficent’s love which broke that very same curse.
But that detail was somehow mysteriously forgotten. For as the tale was told over and over again, throughout the kingdom, Maleficent became evil once more…”
That is, until she rises again as the Phoenix she is!

Upon Maleficent being missing:
“She’s nowhere to be found. What if she’s never to be found? I could be stuck as a human forever!” 🦅
“Did you ever consider turning me into a bear? I think I’d be quite impressive. Look at their claws…”👀…(spoiler alert if you haven’t seen it)
